Hello my numismatic friends. I am sorry I have not posted anything here lately. We have been incredibly busy for a month or so now and I have been even busier with other hobby pursuits (ANA election, preparing myself for Summer Seminar, etc.)
I hate to sound like I am “beating a Dead Horse” but by doing so we have a fairly compact, well documented birth and rise of a 152 year old die variety that is destined to be sought after by many for a good, long, time. How it escaped detection for so long is beyond me.
Here is the latest: We have been told that PCGS is attributing them on their holders as “Smoking Girl.” (I am working on confirming this.) If so, thank you PCGS for recognizing this variety so quickly.A PCGS MS64 has been sold by Heritage for $2900.00! And, finally, we have received word that it is scheduled to be included in the next volume (5th Ed. Vol. 2) of the “Cherrypickers’ Guide.” A tentative number has been assigned but I would avoid using it until we have total confirmation. Also, it will likely be recognized in the CPG as the “Cigar” variety.
Back to all that work I have to do but I do thank you for allowing me to report so much on this one variety. It has been very interesting and educational.
Keep lookin’ and have fun!
Mike
