Tales from the Bourse is a unique collection of short stories and anecdotes written by David Lawrence about some of more interesting events that took place in his journey to becoming a coin dealer on a national scale. It was originally published in 2001 and has been reprinted numerous times due to popular demand. The book is published online here in its entirely.

* * *

In October 1996 I was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig’s disease. Since that time, the illness has gradually taken away the use of my muscles to the point where I am now almost completely paralyzed and unable to speak.

Fortunately, my eye muscles are unaffected and I have written this book on a marvelous invention called the Eyegaze computer. I could not have done it without the aid of my terrific caregivers — Paul King, Spence Moore and Jenny Ferree — who not only keep me going, but set me up and constantly adjust this computer.

My son, John, appears in many of these stories. He has been an integral part of David Lawrence Rare Coins from the very beginning. John is also my partner in DLRC Press and is responsible for all aspects of production of our books.

I am lucky in being able to enjoy the enthusiastic support of all members of my family, especially my wife Lynn and daughter Nancy. They encourage me in all my writing endeavors and are my biggest fans. My wife is a “rare unc.” I don’t know too many women who would go along with trading our house for a bunch of coins (see “The Ultimate Trade”)!
